Chaired six events yesterday and have another six to do today from adoption to the two week wait. From solo and LGBTQ+ parenting to maximising your chances with IVF.

Even though IVF didn’t work for me, I love that I’ve become an expert in all these things. It makes me feel that my unrequited pursuit of motherhood was worth it. #turntheshitintogold

I loved my podcast interview with Eleonora from the @the_why_wait_agenda Firstly, she’s Italian (home to some of my favourite food and friends). Secondly, she bold me over at the end of the interview with a surprise gift (you’ll have to listen to find out what it is!). And thirdly, well, why indeed wait? It’s a good message.

“I felt the rush of water around me and, wobbling and unsteady, I moved forward. The beach ahead looked beautiful: white sand, the sun just starting to set. I said later it looked like the Maldives and everyone laughed and said that Sangatte wasn’t quite as beautiful as that. But it was to me. It was my Maldives.”

This is a pinnacle quote from my book 21 Miles - which came out this month 5 years ago! Which seems very apt, given I’ve just been in the Maldives! Apologies for not posting more pics from that incredible adventure and for being absent from here for a little while. Life has been a hurricane since I got back. My 91 year old mum has been in and out of hospital (again); I’m working super hard on meeting the publishing deadlines for my new book; plus a ton of other general life stuff too.

I planned to post more pics from the Maldives (which seems a dim and distant memory now). I kept thinking: “Jessica people need to see the turtles, the mantas and the sharks…and the beaches, the sunsets and the smiles.” But I’m afraid when something’s gotta give, social media often does as it’s not my natural home unlike the warm sea. I’ve decided I’m a 30C-turtle-kinda-girl.

So here are my top ten Maldives pics for you to enjoy. Sangatte Beach in France will always be ‘My Maldives’ but the real Maldives are amazing. Thank you @swimquestholidays for the memory.
